A Sweater Dress… cozy and comfy without looking sloppy. It’s great when you can keep warm and take a break from leggings in the winter.
That’s what we are Mixing Up in this post.
Not all Sweater dresses are created equal for curves. Some are way too bulky or lack stretch. Here are some things I look for when I’m on the hunt for a Sweater Dress..
Stretch, Length, Fabric
Some Stretch– Having some stretch is a must for curves in my book. Otherwise the dress won’t move with me. In other words, it will be uncomfortable. Without some stretch the dress won’t be flattering. It can end up being shapeless.
The Right Length– I look for dresses that hit well above my knees. The reason for this is for versatility. I want to be able to wear high and low boots. Also, I find that when the dress is too long that it’s just not as flattering. It can look off in terms of proportions when layering. So, shorter (but not too short) is better.
Thinner Fabric– This seems like it would be counterintuitive but it’s not. I stay away from thick sweaters because they add some serious volume to my silhouette. So, going with a thinner sweater works better. I just make sure that it’s not too thin that it’s see through. Plus, it’s easier to layer and accessorize.
Speaking of Accessories…
I like keeping things simple, in terms of accessories, when I wear a Sweater Dress.
Since a Sweater Dress is bringing some texture to the party, I don’t add much else. In this post I added a simple Target Merona suede clutch, H and M ring necklace, and Michael Kords Watch and bracelet. I’m careful about the necklaces I wear because they can get caught on the dress.
… Because getting dressed (and living life) should feel good!
