Mixing up a Basic: A TJ Maxx Dress 2 Ways

I have a few basic dresses in my closet!  When a dress is basic, I am able to create new outfits just by changing out the accessories.

That’s what we are Mixing Up in this post.

Look #1:

This allows me to get more use out of a dress. I can layer it up when it gets cold or just add a statement necklace in the summer. Lots of possibilities.

Makes it easy to get ready in the morning! Plus, means I’m not always having the urge to go shopping.

Look #2:

In this post, I just changed out the belt for the scarf.

Okay, here are my “basics” of the buying basics

  1. Fit – Make sure the dress fits well.
  2. Fabric – Along with fit, a cheaply made basic won’t be durable enough to be worn multiple times. So pay a little more if you need to. You want your clothes to last.
  3. Color – Go for colors that will compliment what you already have in your closet. Also, think about if it will compliment your complexion and skin tone.
  4. Try – Try different combinations of accessories and colors. You never know what will work together! I mix up pieces on my Stylebook app, from a previous post here, to come up with new outfits..

… because getting dressed (and living life) should feel good!
